Happy Mothers Day!

I am so excited about this mothers day!  My parents came into town today to hang out for the weekend.  I am so grateful for them making the trip up here for me to hang out with them.  Holidays are difficult sometimes since Sunday’s are a work day for me!  It has been so good to hang out with my mom, and I am looking forward to taking her to lunch tomorrow!  I have an amazing mom and I am so thankful for her!

I am also excited that I get to spend tomorrow with my bride as we celebrate her being a mom!  Though we haven’t seen our son yet, or know who he is, I know that Dawn is going to make an incredible mother once we bring him home.  I can’t wait to share this journey with her!  Happy Mothers Day mom and Dawn!

Waiting and it’s Okay

I was looking at our adoption blog today and as I scrolled down the page I saw this widget, I think that’s what it is called.  It shows a picture of a baby on a time line showing how long we have been in the waiting process for our boy to come home.   I am not a fancy person and I don’t know how to insert pictures so you can go here to see it. www.thehollomons.blogspot.com

My wife will kill me for saying this, but we have been in this process for one year, two weeks, and two days, far longer than what we thought, but I am okay with it.

This afternoon I read 2 Peter 3:8.  Such a great verse about the patience of God.  It say’s this:  But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

I think for Dawn and I we feel more of along the line of a day feeling like a thousand years.  Each day that passes by feels like a week at times.  However, I am completely okay with God’s timing.  Trusting Him to know when our time is and when our perfect boy will come home.

I am asking you to join me in praying that the Lord will bring our referral to us this month.   We are starting to get close to that time that is going to become very sticky in Ethiopia for adoption with the rainy season and the courts closing down.     A lot of our paper work is beginning to expire, I have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning to update that paper work.

I am claiming these verse this month.  Ephesians 3:20-21: Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever!

I am asking Jesus to do more than I could ask or imagine in this situation.  Will you join us in praying that?

Praying Hard

This week marks week ….month…..ummm whatever.  Long time.  I woke up this morning early and could not sleep anymore.  I don’t know if it was because of a stomach ache or the Holy Spirit.  I spent a lot of time this morning just in prayer for our son.  Not really sure what all I should of prayed for but I just felt a heavy burden on my heart for him this morning.  I am desperately praying and asking God to please send us our referral this week.

This week I am praying and asking God to allow me to live out Isaiah 30:18 when it says,  Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion.  For the LORD is a God of justice.  Blessed are all who wait for him!

This week I am praying that God is gracious to Dawn and I and sends our referral soon.  This is definantly one of the hardest things for me to do is wait.  I know all the spiritual answers, I know God will not send us our child any sooner or later than what he has planned.

One year ago today Dawn and I began our adoption process.  Who knew that something could go by so fast and so slow at the same time.  This has been an incredible journey for us.  We have had many exciting moments as well as many frustrating moments.  The timing of all this has been hard for us, thinking we would of already gone and picked up our son by now.  However, as hard as this has been I know that God has a perfect plan for us.  I know that our perfect boy will come in the time that God has planned for us.

I am so excited about the day we get the phone call  so we can see our son for the first time through an email picture.  I had no idea that I could love someone so much before I ever saw or meet him.

To my son to be:  We can’t wait to see you and meet you.  Your mom and I love you and pray for you daily.  I know the wait is well worth it and you are going to be  the most precious gift from God.  Stay strong as you wait for us and know your mom and I wish we didn’t have to stay apart this long.  We are coming to get you soon!

It Begins

So it begins!  Last night was our Camp Kick off Night.  You can go here to watch the video from last night.  Crutch came up with the idea to let the band play Kingdom live to the video it was awesome.  Micah is going to be amazing this summer at camp leading worship.  I can’t wait.

Two quick stories for you.

1. I had a student who came up to my last night and was inquiring about how he could get to camp from a finicail standpoint.  His family is on government assistance right now and I gave him a couple ideas.  He is determined to go and I believe he will find a way.  I love students who just don’t look at you and say hey pay my way to camp.  He is a 7th grade so pray for him that God provides the funds for him to make it to camp.

2. One of our small group floaters told me last night that the two small groups she was in last night(one middle school and one high school) had a cool story. In her middle school group of out of the 6 students 2 of the students had given their life to Christ at Camp Whatever.  WOW!  But here is one that blew me away.  In her high school group there were 5 girls, and all 5 of those girls had given their live to Christ at some point at Camp Whatever!  A group of students who have come to know Christ and know live in community together!

I can’t wait to see what God does this year.  Picture This!

Another Brazil Update

We are here and everything and everybody is doing GREAT! Travels went very smooth. We had a great team that checked us at the Nashville airport and went above and beyond for us. They even checked 5 of our carry-on bags that we did not really need during the travel for free (a $1000 deal). We were late leaving Nashville because of the snow in New York that morning, but our lay-over was long enough that we still had 3.5 hours to wait even after arriving an hour late. We landed early in Sao Paulo. In fact, we cleared immigration, got luggage, and cleared customs all before we were scheduled to land originally. One note on luggage is that because of our group size, and our first leg to New York being on a smaller plane, the airline shipped some of our luggage through Atlanta and it actually arrived a few hours before we did. I was nervous about this process, but everything was sitting there waiting on us with nothing missing when we arrived at the airport Saturday morning. In other words some of our luggage took a different route but all of it showed up!!

We managed to visit three different favelas on Saturday. Lunch was an interesting event as we ate sandwiches under a highway bridge on the edge of a favela in a recycle center. It was an event that you can be sure that will be remembered. The group got to see what true poverty was and it had an impact on many of the students. The comments being made by many actually put a smile on my face because I knew this trip was going to be a rewarding experience for them all.

The skit, crafts, singing, and other events have been very smooth. All the hardwork and preparing done by everyone has paid huge dividends. The kids we have worked with have enjoyed what they have been presented.

This morning at the church service there was about 120 people here. The students did a great job with singing and testimonies. David, Jared, and myself all taught the individual classes and it appears that part went well too. We did the usual serving of lunch after the service and then everyone spread out on the the property and enjoyed different events: soccer, swimming, volleyball, basketball, crafts, frisbees, and just hanging out. The group is abuzz about the events of the last 48 hours and all are wired to the max. We are preparing to travel into Campinos tonight to visit two more favelas: Monte Cristo and Gleba B. We should be in around 1030 tonight for a late supper and quick showers and then a few hours sleep

Tomorrow we are visiting two different schools where we will do some singing and have the opportunities to speak to Brazilian high school students. It should be an exciting day.

Susie says hi to everyone and that she is not letting anyone down here leave. She is absolutely having a blast having all her friends around her. She told me that I had to bring this many of her friends down everytime. Her and Bret are doing GREAT and starting to speak the language very well.

One last note for up to date news. The Brazilians challenged the team to a “World Cup” type soccer game today. They even had trophies for 1st place and 2nd place. We will be sure to show the 2nd place trophy when we return. We wont share to fact that there were only two teams. HEY, at least to held them to single digits.

You should be proud of your loved one that is on the trip. The whole group is doing GREAT, being positive, and making impact in the lives of others. I will try as hard as I can to get another update by tomorrow night or Tuesday afternoon.

Brazil Update

Hey everyone here is an update from our Brazil team.  Sounds like things are amazing.

We are here!  We had a fantastic traveling experience.  In three years this was absolutely the best traveling experience we have ever had.  You students are doing amazing.  We hit the ground running once we land and saw some pretty heartbreaking things.  There is poverty beyond belief in these favelas.  God is working though through the missionary couples here as well as with our team now.  More will come in the soon future.  The internet here is much better than last year so I am going to attempt to blog nightly.  Pray for us, tomorrow is a long and exciting day.  I just wanted to tell you we are here, happy and safe.

Bring It This Sunday

I  am so excited about this Sunday at LifePoint Church!  God is doing some incredible things (go here, here, or here) at LifePoint.  This Sunday we start a new venue “Worship in The Hub” With such incredible growth at LifePoint this is a much needed service on our campus.  You will not want to miss this driving worship environment.  This guy will be leading worship primarily in Worship in The Hub!  If you aren’t serving at LifePoint Church during the second hour go to this venue.  This will do help do two things at LifePoint.  1. It will help bring momentum to a service that is greatly needed!  2. It will open up seats in the auditorium during our prime service.  Bring It This Sunday!

Last night was amazing.   I will get into some stories this weekend on here for you but many of you have been asking what happened last night here at LifePoint Church.  Last night was our I2I event for students (invest to invite).  We do both our middle school, Rush Hour, and high school, Fuel, out reach night on the same evening.  Here are some quick stats from last night.

182 first time guest
43 students indicated salvation
59 students indicated they needed/wanted to be baptized

Epic

January 29th, 2009

Tonight was an epic night in the student ministry of LifePoint Church.  I won’t lie I was worried about what might happen tonight since schools were canceled, but our adult team came through huge and was there with a great crowd of students.

We baptized three students tonight, in the auditorium and sent the video of it live into “the hub” where our students meet.  Our tech team is amazing to make things like this happen! Through us baptizing tonight we had a ton of kids say hey I need to get baptized and talked to an adult about that tonight.  I’ve heard of three students who recieved Christ tonight!  Yes praise God!

This coming Wednesday is Fuel and Rush Hour, our outreach events for students.  Praying that God brings students from all over Rutherford County to LifePoint next week.  I probably won’t sleep for the next week I am so excited about this.  Hang on LifePoint Students God is just in the beginning of what is happening around here! I can’t wait!
